With the recent passing of Sammy, (Frank & Diane's dog) the talk of Angels has resurfaced. I first discussed Angels with Maelyn when I talk to her about Grandma Sullivan. She knows that Grandma Sullivan is an Angel in the sky. I told her that Angels watch over us every day. We can't see them but we know that they're there.
After Great Grandma (Mary Gross) passed away I told her that she now has two special Angels watching over her. She asked me, "why can't we see them?" I told her to close her eyes and think about Great Grandma. I told her we can see them in our memory and in our hearts - we just need to think about them.
When Frank & Diane came out to visit, Maelyn asked where sammy was. Frank said that she was in heaven. Maelyn didn't understand what heaven was and I told her that Sammy was a doggy angel. She understood what that meant.
The topic of Angels came up again after discussing pool rules with Maelyn. She knows that she is not to go into the pool without mommy or daddy. I've discussed the word drowning with her and she understands that she will go to the bottom. The other day we were going over the pool rules again and this is what she said, "I don't go into the pool without my mommy or daddy. I don't want to go to the bottom of the pool for a long, long time and become an angel. I don't want to be an angel." I told her that I don't want her to be an angel either.
She's beginning to understand that when you die you become an angel.
